Unlike other smartphone manufacturers on the market, Apple usually does not announce detailed configurations of new iPhone versions at launch events , but only focuses on introducing features and upgrades on the product.

The iPhone 16 series launch event on September 9 was no exception. Apple only introduced upgrades and new features on the iPhone 16 series such as camera control buttons, video recording upgrades, artificial intelligence features... without announcing detailed configuration information.

Apple only mentioned the screen size and the type of chip used on the iPhone versions, without revealing detailed information about the processor clock speed, RAM capacity, battery capacity... Even though these are the information that many people are interested in when buying a new smartphone.

Recently, Johny Srouji, Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Technology, revealed information that many people are interested in, which is the RAM capacity on the iPhone 16 series.

In an interview with the technology YouTube channel Geekerwan, Johny Srouji said that all versions of the iPhone 16 have 8GB of RAM.

Thus, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus duo have been upgraded to 8GB, instead of just 6GB like on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus duo. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max still retain the same RAM capacity.

The reason why the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are upgraded to 8GB of RAM is to help these two smartphones use Apple's artificial intelligence features, which require a strong configuration and large RAM. Previously, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus duo also did not support Apple's artificial intelligence features.

"We looked at different configurations, both in terms of compute power and memory bandwidth and memory capacity. Then we considered the most reasonable option. Apple Intelligence was the main factor in our decision to upgrade all iPhone 16 versions to 8GB of RAM," Johny Srouji shared.

This is the first time Apple has equipped the base iPhone models with 8GB of RAM. Srouji also emphasized that the large capacity RAM can help the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus play heavy games that were previously only playable on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

"The 8GB RAM will help the iPhone 16 a lot when running different applications, including gaming," Johny Srouji added.

Apple always invests heavily in developing processing chips but often equips its iPhone models with modest RAM capacity compared to Android smartphones.

Currently, 8GB RAM has become popular on mid-range Android smartphones, while high-end products are equipped with 12GB or 16GB RAM. Meanwhile, iPhone still only equips a modest 8GB RAM for new iPhone models.

However, Apple's good optimization of the iOS platform and development of high-performance processors means that the company does not need to equip the iPhone with too much RAM but still ensures the device operates smoothly and stably.
