This is the foundation for semiconductor companies to develop their own language models.
SemiKong - the world's first open source large language model (LLM) dedicated to the semiconductor industry, has just been officially launched. The product is expected to optimize semiconductor manufacturing processes and technologies, quickly exploiting the potential of this $500 billion industry in the next 5 years.

This is the result of cooperation between members of the World AI Alliance, including AITOMATIC, Tokyo Electron (TEL) and FPT Software (a member company of FPT Corporation). In which, FPT Software plays a role in building infrastructure resources and refining the semiconductor platform model for SemiKong.
SemiKong has been available on HuggingFace and GitHub since July 9, 2024. It is a platform for semiconductor companies to develop their own language models based on the collective knowledge of the entire industry. The next and more powerful version of Semikong is expected to be released in December 2024.
According to its co-developer FPT, SemiKong outperforms common language models such as GPT and Llama3 in terms of accuracy, coherence, and understanding of semiconductor processes. Versions of SemiKong have been significantly effective in helping to accelerate innovation and reduce costs across the entire semiconductor value chain.
"SemiKong can contribute to reducing the cost of semiconductor production. From there, consumers will directly benefit by reducing the cost of buying smartphones, laptops and smart home devices in the coming years," FPT said.
Dr. Anthony Annunziata - Head of AI Open Innovation and AI Alliance at IBM Research described: "SemiKong is a clear demonstration of the realization of the World AI Alliance's mission in promoting the application of AI technology advances in important industries such as semiconductor manufacturing".
On the side of AITomatic CEO, Dr. Christopher Nguyen, who is also the head of the SemiKong project, affirmed: "With expertise in semiconductors, AI application solutions can always solve complex manufacturing problems with unprecedented efficiency."
Meanwhile, Daisuke Oku - senior expert at Tokyo Electron expressed his belief that "SemiKong will be the beginning of an exciting journey of open source AI for the semiconductor industry".
